The engine crew of Electrical and Machinery Workshop was recently honored with the title of “Pioneer of Workers” by the Federation of Trade Unions in work areas, in recognition of their dedication. Guided by the motto “Pragmatism and Innovation”, the crew members uphold a spirit of “Craftsmanship”, demonstrating commitment, passion, and diligence in completing each ship’s turbine engineering repair and modification. In daily production and management, the crew leader Zhou Kekan consistently emphasizes demonstration and teaching as a foundation, continuously to promote development of the crew members through the four cyclical skills of motivation, learning, sharing and growth. With exceptional repair skills and a rigorous work ethic grounded in seriousness and practicality, the crew has become a trailblazer for reform and innovation.

In 2021, during the repair of the vessel LNG, the engine crew, serving as the backbone of the company, successfully completed the repair of both main and auxiliary engines, including two extreme ultra-high temperature and high pressure steam wheels, as well as the ultra-low temperature thin-film LNG cargo tank. This was achieved through rigorous implementation of basic skills and professional training without any external technical assistance, demonstrating self-reliance and stability. Additionally, they accomplished the first domestic emergency cargo pump removal operation. Throughout the 14-day ship repair period, they worked tirelessly day and night to ensure progress and quality of the project while leveraging their professional expertise to repair and maintain various machinery and equipment. The exceptional professional skills and qualities exhibited by the crew have been highly commended by shipowners and the shipping industry peers, marking a significant milestone in breaking through industry monopolies for our company.

During the repair of luxury cruise ships in 2023, the luxury cruise ship “Dream” has been temporarily suspended for three years due to the impact of the epidemic. All cabin equipment requires comprehensive maintenance to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the cruise ship. In accordance with the overall maintenance plan, the engine crew members meticulously planned, constructed accurately and ensured  successful completion of each task within the schedule, providing solid technical support for further resuming operations of the cruise ship.

In 2023, in order to achieve the goal of energy conservation and emission reduction, Maersk decided to implement a retrofit project of power reduction for a specific series of main engines. Faced with this advanced retrofit plan, the engine crew of Electrical and Machinery Workshop collaborated to carefully devise the modification plan. Leveraging years of technical expertise, they successfully removed the cylinder liner, handled screws and straightened out all kinds of body teeth using self-made tools. The main engine transformation was completed on schedule and successfully commissioned by Maersk.

We are confident that the crew will continue to explore and advance for development in the future, consistently delivering optimal solutions for shipowners. They will generate greater value for the global shipping industry and offer valuable and practical experience for the world’s ship repair industry in constructing “Xinya Mode”.
