Fierce Contest Takes Stage; Young Talents Show Their Linguistic Prowess

Staged on the eve of the May Fourth Youth Day, this buzzer-style knowledge competition has ignited a passion among young staff to learn and apply professional English, supporting the growth of the company’s international business. Teams from various departments and workshops competed head-to-head on site.

The contest featured a total of 100 questions: 40 Chinese-to-English translation tasks, 40 English-to-Chinese translation tasks and 20 long complex sentence translations. The question bank covered equipment designations, ship repair technical terminologies, safety signs and practical on-site work dialogues. Final rankings were determined based on total accumulated points.

Two commercial representatives from the Commercial Department acted as judges. They were tasked with confirming the order of buzz-in responses and assessing translation quality. Contestants were required to deliver standard pronunciation and ensure their translations conveyed the core original meaning accurately.

During the contest, young employees raised their hands enthusiastically and dared to speak up freely. Several tough questions triggered heated exchanges, reflecting their spirit of critical thinking and courage to tackle challenges head-on. After intense rounds of competition, the HSE team claimed the first prize, the Quality Control team took second place, and the Coating team ranked third.

Leadership Messages: Clarify Aspirations and Embrace Responsibilities

After the contest, senior management held a forum for exchange with young employee representatives. Vice President Wang Junting took the floor first. He fully affirmed the event format and lively on-site interaction, and singled out young participants who volunteered to raise hands and speak confidently for praise. He pointed out that professional English is an essential skill for on-site engineering communication and foreign exchanges, which directly shapes the ceiling of one’s career development.

He encouraged all young staff to put knowledge into practice, actively use English during morning briefings, shipowner meetings and daily operations, and consult senior technicians and colleagues proactively. He also advised them to face up to weaknesses revealed in the competition and draw up targeted improvement plans.

Stressing that the company is in a phase of rapid expansion, he hoped young employees would immerse themselves in professional study, embrace hardship, and fulfill their personal value through dedicated work.

CEO Xia Songkang then delivered a key address. Drawing on his own arduous entrepreneurial experiences in the early days, he reminded young employees that one must set clear life goals and strive for them unremittingly. He urged every young staff member to formulate a career plan, stay down-to-earth, and realize their aspirations through wisdom, consistent practice, a strong sense of responsibility and the perseverance to overcome all obstacles.

CEO Xia further emphasized that young employees should maintain a sound mindset and cherish their career choice. Joining Xinya marks a brand-new starting point; they should let go of past experiences and fully integrate into the company’s culture, standards and workflows. He stated that mindset shapes performance, and advocated the spirit of readiness to give and take. Young talents ought to overlook trivial gains and losses, adopt a long-term vision, refrain from complaining about external conditions, focus on self-improvement, and greet daily work with a positive attitude.

In closing, CEO Xia noted that young employees should make good use of the development platform and shoulder their missions. Young people, comparable to the sun at eight or nine o’clock in the morning, form the backbone of the company’s future growth. They should treasure this platform, settle down to accumulate skills and experience, dedicate their youth to their posts, and align personal dreams with corporate missions. He firmly believed that as Xinya advances toward high-quality development, all those who keep working hard will achieve their goals and realize self-worth.
