The Company’s Mechanical and Electrical Work Area Wheel Group has been awarded the “Pioneer Worker” title by Putuo District.

Recently, the Engine Room Gear Team of the Mechanical and Electrical Work Area was awarded the honorary title of “Pioneer Worker Team” by the District Federation of Trade Unions—well deserved! Guided by the team motto of “Pragmatism and Innovation,” the Engine Room Gear Team takes it upon itself to carry forward the spirit of “Master Craftsmen of a Great Nation,” dedicating their heart, soul, and utmost effort to the repair and modification of ship machinery on every vessel. In daily team production management, Team Leader Zhou Kekan has consistently adhered to a mentor‑apprentice model, leveraging a four‑fold cycle of motivation, learning, sharing, and growth to continuously foster the team’s development. With their superb and reliable repair skills, coupled with a rigorous, conscientious, and down‑to‑earth work ethic, this team has become a trailblazer in the company’s reform and innovation efforts.

During the company’s LNG vessel overhaul in 2021, the engine department—taking on the primary responsibility—relied solely on its own capabilities to steadily and reliably complete the repair of two ultra‑high‑temperature, ultra‑high‑pressure steam turbine main and auxiliary engines, as well as the repair of the cryogenic membrane-type LNG cargo tanks, all without any external technical support. They also successfully carried out the nation’s first emergency cargo pump removal operation. Within the vessel’s 14‑day repair period, the engine department worked in close coordination, day and night, diligently managing both project progress and quality, fully leveraging their specialized expertise to repair and maintain various types of mechanical equipment. The engine department’s strong professional skills and competence earned high praise from shipowners and industry peers alike, marking a solid step forward for the company in breaking through industry monopolies.

During the 2023 luxury cruise ship overhaul, the Dream Cruises’ flagship had been idled for three years due to the pandemic. To ensure the smooth and safe operation of the vessel, all equipment in the engine room required comprehensive maintenance. Following the overall repair plan, the crew meticulously planned ahead and executed work with precision, ensuring that every task was completed smoothly within the designated milestones, thereby providing solid technical support for the further resumption of cruise operations.

In 2023, in order to achieve its energy-saving and emission-reduction goals, Maersk decided to undertake a host power reduction retrofit project on a certain series of main engines. Faced with this advanced retrofit solution, the crew members of the Mechanical and Electrical Workshop pooled their expertise and worked together to meticulously develop a retrofit plan. Leveraging the workshop’s years of technical experience, they fabricated various tools in-house, successfully removed the main engine cylinder liners and through-bolts, and carefully aligned all the engine bedplates. The main engine retrofit was completed on schedule and handed over to Maersk for successful commissioning.

We believe that the engine room team will continue to explore and forge ahead on its future development path, bravely scaling new heights, consistently delivering more comprehensive solutions for shipowners, creating greater value for global shipping services, and providing valuable practical experience for building the “Xinya Model” in the global ship repair industry.
